Buying potatoes is easy right ? Sure it’s not that hard — but here are some tips to get even better ones.
- Squeeze the potato. It should be hard. A hard potato has better flavor and will last longer in the pantry. A potato that is starting to soften is getting old. If in a bag the potatoes can be squeezed through the bag.
- I typically buy a 5lb bag. Why ? So my potoates stay fresh. When I buy the 10lb bag I save a couple bucks per pound but throw out 1/2 the potatoes anyway because they go bad. Of course, this all depends on your consumption.
- When buying a bag of potatoes look at the potatoes in the bag. Look for moisture. If you do see moisture — smell the bag. There might be a bad potoato. Sometimes the moisture is just some condensation and that’s ok.
