This weeks Dallas Dog was a total hit. This dog is big size and big taste and great for any football fan ! A huge 1/4 lb beef frank smothered in a Texas Hot Dog Sauce that was meaty, spicy and tasted great.
I based the sauce off this recipe and added peppers, brown sugar and cayenne.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 lb Beef hot dog
- Stadium buns
- Mustard
Sauce:
(serves 6-8 dogs)
- 1 lb ground beef
- 8 oz plain tomato sauce
- 8 oz water
- 3 hatch peppers, diced. May substitute other peppers.
- 1 Tbs chili powder
- 1 Tbs crushed red pepper
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp cayenne
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp salt
Directions:
Brown beef with tablespoon of oil. Season with salt. When beef is browned drain excess oil.
In a large sauce pan, mix browned beef and all ingredients together. Cook on medium uncovered until boiling. Reduce to low, stir and cover. Stir every 15-20 minutes. Cook at least 1.5 hours for all ingredients to cook together.
To cook hot dog – grill on medium heat 3 minutes each side.
