Miami Hot Dog

For this weeks SNF game I cooked up a Miami hot dog to get me into the football mood. This Miami hot dog delivers a fresh taste with a little bit of tang.  It wasn’t easy to find a Miami hot dog recipe. I found a few recipes that used mojo sauce but most complained because the mojo sauce was too oily. I listened to that feedback and modified this mojo recipe to use less oil and more juices. This worked great as it created a thick sauce. I also scored the hot dog and slow  cooked the hot dog in the mojo sauce to really infuse the mojo sauce flavor into the dog. Topped with fresh pineapple and avocado this was a sweet, tangy and fresh tasting hot dog. A great hot dog for Miami.

Ingredients:

  • beef hot dogs
  • hot dog buns
  • mojo sauce
  • 1 cup pineapple, diced
  • 1 avocado, diced

Mojo Sauce ( Enough for 4 hot dogs.)

  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 5 cloves garlic, diced.
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • salt, pepper to taste

Mojo Sauce Directions:

Add oil to hot pan. saute garlic. Do not burn. Add remaining ingredients and bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook uncovered for 20 minutes. Remove from heat.

Hot Dog Directions:

Score the outside of the hot dogs. This is so they can soak in the mojo sauce. Heat pan to low heat. Add hot dogs and cover with mojo sauce. Cover with a lid and cook on low for 30 or more minutes.

Serve:

Spread some of the sauce on hot dog bugs. Add hot dog and top with pineapple and avocado.
