Hot Dogs

For the 2010 football season I honored the Sunday Night Football game by making a hot dog in the style of one of the football teams. It was a grueling season and there were a ton of great tasting hot dogs to be had.

Each week was different and ranged from the simplicity of the classic New York, to a hometown Seattle Dog and a creative Indianapolis Dog.

Fifteen dogs total. Fifteen different cities.

Here they are in weekly order:

Week 1 — Dallas Hot Dog – The Dallas Dog was 1/4 lb of dog and topped with a spicy chili and tons of cheese. A great way to start off the season.

Week 2 — Indianapolis Hot Dog – Indianapolis is known for it’s breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches. So while not technically a hot dog this hot dog is filled with strips of breaded tenderloin. It was so good it made the top 5.

Week 3 — Miami Hot Dog – Miami gets a lot of it’s food style from Cuba and the hot dog is no different. This dog is topped with mojo sauce, pineapple and avocado to pack a fresh and tangy bite.

Week 4 — Chicago Hot Dog — The Chicago lived up to its reputation. This variation added some additional crunchiness. Chicago was an easy selection for the top 5.

Week 5 – Bye Week

Week 6 — WA DC Hot Dog — The monumental dog is a classic in the WA DC area. Topped with tons of stuff this dog has a lot of flavor.

Week 7 — Minnesota Hot Dog — Minnesota isn’t known for it’s hot dogs so it was time to get creative. This hot dog was topped with a wild rice cheese sauce that hit the spot on a fall day.

Week 8 — New Orleans Hot Dog — Spicy was key when deciding on the New Orleans Hot Dog. Topped with red beans and hot sauce this dog had a kick.

Week 9 — Green Bay Hot Dog – Green Bay’s history with the brat just can’t be ignored so the Green Bay hot dog was two big brats on a bun cooked Green Bay style. The cooking technique launched this one into the top 5.

Week 10 — Pittsburgh Hot Dog – Pittsburgh brings us a hot dog topped with coleslaw and tomatoes. Here’s a great way to get some veggies.

Week 11 — New York Hot Dog– A classic that is hard to beat. An all beef dog topped with sauerkraut and mustard. This one made the FoodGrizzly top 5.

Week 12 — San Diego Hot Dog– This bacon wrapped hot dog is a classic in San Diego & LA. Onions and jalapenos take this one over the top.

Week 13 — Baltimore Hot Dog– Hot Dog + Fried Bologna = Goodness. This one is for real !

Week14 — Philadelphia Hot Dog — This all beef hot dog was topped with a classic Philly cheese steak recipe of steak, onions, mushrooms, peppers and nacho cheese sauce.

Week 15 — New England Hot Dog– Totally ripped off from the Fenway Frank this all beef hot dog is topped with relish and mustard. Served on a side-cut french bun. This was one of the season’s favorites and in the top 5.

Week 16 — Seattle Bagel Dog – How appropriate to wrap up the Hot Dog Tour in my hometown. Cream cheese is what sets this dog apart. Enjoy!

There you have it. Got any tips on awesome regional hot dogs ? Love to hear them.
